So You Can Roam While Your Cats Stay Home©

Policies, Procedures, Disclaimers and Fine Print

Cat Watchers™ function is to allow your cats the comfort of staying home when their humans need to be away.  Most of the following policies are aimed at helping your cats be as safe and as stress-free as possible in your absence.  Of course some of the policies are to enable us to function more efficiently, which ultimately will result in better service for both human and feline clients.

With that end in mind, the following information is provided to clarify how Cat Watchers™ operates, what the procedures are and what is expected of our clients.  It is as inclusive as possible and always subject to change.   Cat Watchers™ clients are asked to read and agree to these policies prior to scheduling service.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Scheduling and Confirming Visits

At a minimum, daily visits are required.  Cat Watchers’™ first visit must be no later than the day following your departure.  Our last visit must be no earlier than the day before your return home.  If your cats are receiving visits once a day and do not have food available at all times and if you are scheduled home late in the day, you are strongly urged to schedule a visit for the morning of your return to ensure the well-being of your cats.

Once-a-day visits will generally be done by Cat Watchers™ staff during the morning to early afternoon hours.  Later afternoon and evening visits are reserved for clients that need service twice a day.

Once you have decided to use Cat Watchers™, contact the owner via telephone or e-mail to get your cats on the schedule.  An e-mail confirmation will be sent to you, confirming the dates you have requested.  You are responsible for confirming these visit dates are correct.  Clients without e-mail need to confirm by telephone at least 5 days prior to departure – during holiday seasons, this confirmation is required at least 2 weeks in advance (see Cancellation Policy below).

Complimentary Introductory Visit & Deposit

After a person has scheduled the services of Cat Watchers™, the owner will come for a complimentary visit to meet you and your cats and to get the keys and care instructions.  At this meeting, a non-refundable deposit of $30 will be requested which will be credited toward the first invoice for services.  In the event that these services are cancelled, the deposit will not be refunded.

Cat Watchers™ offers only one complimentary meeting.  If additional meetings are requested at any time, there will be an additional fee.  Our procedures are designed to eliminate the need for such extraneous meetings.

Key Procedures

In order to ensure our ability to gain access to your home, two keys are necessary. We will not use a garage code or your lock box.  Cat Watchers™ may at times request you to provide duplicate keys or may make duplicate keys as necessary.

Keys must be kept on file with us for future visits.  The keys are coded and kept in a locked safe when not in use.

Notification of Client's Return

You will be expected to notify Cat Watchers™ when you return by leaving a voicemail message at the 24 hour number, 612.640.0827.  If we don't hear from you within a reasonable period of time, we will try to contact you by phone.  If we are unable to make contact, we will make a visit.  If you have returned and did not notify us, this visit will be charged at your regular rate plus $10.   If you have been delayed and unable to call, we will continue to care for your pets until we hear from you. These visits will be charged at your regular rate.  This procedure is to help ensure the well-being of client pets, as well as to provide for your peace of mind while traveling.

Veterinary Care

At the introductory meeting, you will give Cat Watchers™ information about your preferred veterinarian and also sign a release authorizing us to seek medical attention for your pets if necessary.   If your preferred veterinarians are unavailable and an animal needs medical attention, another vet will be used.  We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before approving veterinary care.  If you are unable to be reached, your emergency contact will be notified if possible.  You are fully responsible for payment and/or reimbursement for veterinary services upon your return.  Cat Watchers™ assumes no responsibility for the actions and decisions of the veterinary staff or for the loss of the pet.

Litterbox Maintenance

Starting with a clean box is expected and appreciated.   If we find the box “full” at the first visit (i.e., it hasn’t been scooped for two or more days), a $10 charge may incur.  We will leave the litter box and surrounding area in at least as good condition as it was at the first visit. You will need to provide us with the necessary equipment, including scoop, bags, broom and dustpan, to keep the litter box area maintained.

Hairballs and Throw Up

Cat Watchers™ is not a cleaning service.  The procedure we use for incidents of this nature is to cover the throw-up with a paper towel and let it dry; once it’s dry, pick up as much as possible and mark the spot again for you to deep-clean on your return home.  We will not be responsible for any damage to carpets, rugs, floors, plants, or other household goods caused by your pets urinating, spraying, defecating, chewing or throwing up on same.

Hidey Cats

Prior to departure, you will be responsible to do a headcount to make sure that all cats are accounted for and not confined somewhere in the house or worse yet outside.

Company For Your Cats

It is our belief that cats are soothed by having soft music somewhere in their home when their humans are absent.  We strongly encourage you to leave a radio (or TV) on to provide this comfort to your cats.

Outdoor Access

Cat Watchers™ will not assume liability for pets that have access to outside.  For the safety of your pets, we strongly recommend leaving pets inside while you are absent.  If this is not done, we will assume no liability for such pets and will require a signed waiver of liability from you.

Weather Alerts

In the case of extreme weather, pets will be cared for as soon as safely possible.  You are responsible to make arrangements for snow removal during the winter season to ensure our ability to care for pets, to assure the safety of our employees and to make your home appear occupied.

We reserve the right to adjust the heat or air conditioning in client homes to assure the safety and well-being of client pets.

Others With Access To Your Home

You are requested to have no one else in your home while we are providing pet services.  If you allow others to have access, we will not assume liability for the care of the pets or the home and will require a signed waiver of liability from you.

If Cat Watchers™ finds others in your home and has not been notified that they may be present, the police will be contacted.   This procedure is for the protection of your pets and home, as well as the safety of our employees.

Job Sharing

We do not job share with friends, neighbors or extended family members except under very extenuating circumstances.  Job sharing will NEVER be done for pets that require any kind of medical care.

Keeping Current

On an ongoing basis, you will be responsible for providing us with current pet care and emergency contact information, including names and telephone numbers.  For special needs cats, this includes dosage and frequency of medications.  Cat Watchers™ requires at least one primary emergency contact that does not involve the use of a cell phone number.

Additional Indoor Services

Outdoor Services

Cat Watchers™ is a cat care service and NOT a plant care or yard service.    Outdoor services are NOT included as part of routine service. If you have outdoor service needs, you are strongly urged to find others to take care of outside needs.  If that is not feasible, arrangements must be made with us prior to the start of service.   Outdoor services will be charged at a minimum rate of $12 per quarter hour or portion thereof.   Cat Watchers™ does not make any warranties about plant care or other outside services requested by Client.
